State Prison of Southern Michigan
Jackson, Michigan
Work on this $116 million, 2,200,000 SF project(s) occurred over a ten-year period and included the renovation of 60 existing buildings and the construction of three new ones.
This project was part of Michigan's Department of Correction's Decentralization and Reorganization Plan which divided the existing prison into four largely-independent prisons sharing a Central Services facility. The prison's new food production kitchen presently prepares and provides daily meals for seven southern Michigan correctional facilities.
To maintain inmate security, this multi-phased project included the creation of temporary "swing spaces" including secure cell blocks, kitchen, dining hall, gymnasium and administrative/office areas. On-going operations remained unaffected in areas not under construction.
