Ann Arbor Public Schools has recently completed a large building program to relieve high school overcrowding. Skyline High School, a beautiful, new, 1600-student, comprehensive high school opened to staff and students in August 2008. Significant renovation work to the remaining high schools is still underway.

Construction of the new four story, $70 million, 382,000 SF facility included a classroom tower, media center, commons area, 800 seat performing arts center, two gymnasiums, and an eight lane pool. Athletic facilities included a sunken bowl football stadium with synthetic turf, soccer/lacrosse field, resilient surface running track, baseball field, two softball fields, ten tennis courts, as well as multi-use practice fields.

Notable Features:
Skyline High School was awarded LEED-NC Silver certification in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Counsel. Implementation of LEED practices provided reduced facility operating costs, a healthier environment, and conservation of natural resources.

Skyline High School benefits from a geothermal heating and cooling system. This system, comprised of approximately 80 miles of PVC pipes buried 5 – 7 feet deep, utilizes the earth’s core temperature to regulate building comfort. To our knowledge, this is one of the largest horizontal geothermal fields in North America.

Not only does Granger build excellent facilities, we also build quality roads! This project includes significant road construction along Maple Road, including 3 new roundabouts located at each of the busy M-14 intersections and the main entrance to the school. These will greatly improve traffic safety.

Renovations:
Renovations are also occurring at the five other Ann Arbor high school facilities. Among the many upgrades are a new performing arts addition (Huron), the decentralization of administrative offices (Huron and Pioneer), a new stage and music classroom (Roberto Clemente), a new gymnasium addition (Stone), and various mechanical and architectural upgrades at Community High School.
