Ferris State University | FLITE Library Big Rapids, Michigan
Ferris State University was seeking to build a high-tech facility (a central focus on campus) combining a traditional print library and a state-of-the-art digital information library/technical learning center. In addition, the university wanted to create a facility that would serve as a social and intellectual commons; a cultural space for FSU students, faculty, staff and the larger community to gather in a nurturing/learning environment.
Granger met every goal in the process of delivering this $27.5 million, 174,000 SF award-winning project − to the university's complete satisfaction.
The standard 440,000 volume print collection is housed using
traditional shelving; interspersed with state-of-the-art computer
facilities and electronically-equipped teaching, study and meeting
rooms.
In addition to the library, the building also houses an Education
Technology Center (that includes an Instructional Technology Unit), a
Center for Teaching, Learning and Faculty Development, and a Center for
Distributed Learning.
