Jackson National Life (Remote Data Center)
Lansing, Michigan

Jackson National Life Insurance, Remote Data Center is a facility which houses the Corporation’s disaster recovery and main data center
(17,000 SF). The 23,300 SF facility is located above the 100-year flood plain. The structure has “bunker-like” construction with no windows, with its own separate and enclosed mechanical and electrical services. The building is designed to withstand Category F-2 Hurricanes (152 m/hr winds). It's walls are 12” block with reinforcing and grouted solid. The roof is composed of EPDM fully adhered, roofing system (120 m/hr) and two separate concrete slabs with the waterproofing system sandwiched between. The facility will not be occupied at any time.

This building is served by dedicated transformers, two main switchboards and twin distribution boards. The electrical is backed up by three (3) local 1000 KW stand-by generators which can support the entire building, including all heating and cooling functions for approximately 120 hours. Three-phase power is provided to all computer equipment through central UPS units with back-up batteries. All systems have minimum N+1 redundancy. Grounding and lightning protections systems were installed for all equipment. The fire protection system consists of the FM–200 and the early detection systems. This project was completed under budget in thirty-three (33) weeks.
