LCC | University Center
Lansing, Michigan
Located on a very tight site in the heart of downtown Lansing (3 blocks north of the Capitol Building), this project required exceptional vigilance in regard to ensuring the safety of college students, visitors and pedestrian traffic.
This 40,000 SF project consisted of renovating the existing 18,000 SF historical (circa 1903) Carnegie Library and connecting it to a new 22,000 SF addition.
The new addition was constructed with modern materials and with a unique facade that complimented the historic library structure. LCC’s new University Center hosts classrooms and administration areas enabling the college to support its new 4-Year University Partners Program which offers further education opportunities to LCC students.
The renovation included completely removing all existing systems and the installation of new systems and finishes, while maintaining a constant focus on preserving the library's original historic integrity and ambiance.
This project was built to be LEED-compliant; however, it was decided to not pursue/invest in formal certification.
