MSU | Grand River Parking Ramp East Lansing , Michigan
During construction, many people asked what academic department was moving into the Michigan State University’s (MSU) new brick building. They were shocked to hear the building was for cars; not people. Visually blending into MSU’s historic North Campus was what the university wanted and that’s precisely what our team delivered in December 2007.
Working on a densely populated campus, adjacent to a heavily trafficked main thoroughfare, Granger delivered this unique six-level, 730-car ramp seven months ahead of schedule and on budget. The post-tensioned concrete structure, with approximately 252,000 SF of gross floor area, is made of brick and limestone veneer. It was built in extremely tight quarters, requiring the crane to be positioned within the building’s footprint. The ramp includes two elevators, three stair towers, and an emergency generator. Extensive roadway additions and improvements were also done.
Early delivery (7 months ahead of schedule) provided substantial savings to MSU in parking fees paid to East Lansing for use of the city’s nearby parking ramp during construction.
