Employee Spotlight: Carl Lamphere – Celebrating 30 Years of Excellence in Construction

For three decades, Carl Lamphere has been a driving force behind some of Granger Construction’s most complex and celebrated projects. His 30-year milestone is not just a measure of time, but a testament to leadership, craftsmanship and unwavering dedication.

Carl’s career path is impressive; starting as a carpenter, then advancing to carpenter foreman and now serving as a superintendent, his journey reflects a deep commitment to continuous improvement.

Carl has become a cornerstone of our team. He is known for his unwavering commitment to quality, integrity and client satisfaction. His leadership has shaped the success of dozens of projects across a wide range of market segments.

Carl’s ability to prioritize our clients’ best interests, paired with his deep technical knowledge and calm, solutions-oriented approach, has earned him high praise from both colleagues and clients. He consistently sets the standard for excellence in everything he does.

For more than 15 years, Carl has led numerous heavy civil projects on Michigan State University’s campus. Most recently, he oversaw the extensive concrete work at the Farm Lane Bridge Replacement—Granger’s first-ever vehicular bridge project. His exemplary leadership on this complex, award-winning, design-build effort earned accolades from all project partners. Carl is now applying that same level of expertise to Granger’s and MSU’s largest ever infrastructure project involving the new West Regional Chilled Water Plant and chilled water distribution loop. This $143 million project involves placing several blocks worth of underground HDPE piping that will extend from the new plant to initially service 11 buildings on campus, with capacity to support future campus growth. But this isn’t just any piping…it’s the largest size piping anyone on the project – MSU, Granger and John E Green (the MEP contractor) has ever used on a project, which means Carl and his team are establishing a new benchmark for current and future projects on campus to ensure consistency, durability and long-term performance of these critical systems.

Though Carl often works behind the scenes, and much of his work ends up getting buried, his impact is felt on every job he touches. He goes above and beyond to ensure the Granger brand is proudly represented in the work his teams deliver.

“In addition to Carl’s keen eye for quality, he has an unmatched situational awareness when it comes to safety,” says Jerrod Pung, Vice President of Construction Services at Granger. “Over the years, Carl has been tasked with leading some of our most logistically challenging concrete projects—vaults deep in the ground, foundations on postage-stamp-sized sites, steam work in crawl tunnels and more. Each of these comes with unique safety challenges, and Carl’s proactive approach stands out as the best in our industry.”

Beyond his technical expertise, Carl is a great person and dedicated mentor. His decades of experience and great attitude put him in a unique position to teach, develop and inspire Granger’s next generation of field leaders.

“Carl Lamphere is as much a great human being and friend as he is an exceptional employee,” said Glenn Granger, CEO of Granger Construction. “We have grown together in the industry and I’ve had the privilege of seeing how he has shaped the many buildings we construct as well as the culture here at Granger Construction. His leadership in the field has driven innovation, elevated standards and inspired generations of builders.”

Thank you, Carl, for 30 years of outstanding service. Your legacy of leadership, craftsmanship and dedication to exceeding client goals continues to inspire us all.
