The Monroe County Jails common area features metal tables and stools, surrounded by multiple cell doors. A staircase leads to a second level secured by a mesh railing, while wall-mounted telephones are visible on the left. The lighting is bright, and the concrete floor underscores its institutional design.

Project Completion: Monroe County Jail

To commemorate the completion of a new $15.1 million state-of-the art Sheriff’s Office and Correctional Facility in Woodsfield, Ohio, Monroe County hosted a public Open House with guided tours of the new facility in February of 2018.

“The entire project team was excited to finish the project on a positive note and excited about being able to show off this new facility to the community,” said Granger’s Todd Butler, who served as Project Manager on the job.

The 31,384 square foot, 114-bed jail facility includes minimum, medium and maximum-security housing and features:

    •  A large industrial kitchen
    •  Laundry
    • A detoxification area for inmates
    • A special needs area for inmates
    • A visitation area, a medical area
    • Several holding cells and
    • A commissary

The facility will also house the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. Previously, the sheriff’s department had no operational jail to house those charged with a crime and sentenced in county courts. They were transporting all inmates to jails in neighboring counties where it cost nearly $60 per day to house them.

The Granger team also worked with Monroe County to train corrections officers and members of the Sheriff’s Department inside the facility. This was the second county jail facility Granger completed in Ohio.
