The Crisis Care Center, developed by Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton and Ingham Counties (CMHA-CEI), addressed the growing need for additional crisis support services within the greater Lansing area.

It provides urgent, accessible mental health care to youth and adults in crisis, offering immediate intervention to stabilize individuals in distress, reduce hospitalizations and ease the burden on emergency rooms. In partnership with McLaren Health, law enforcement, and community organizations, the Center fosters a collaborative approach to mental health support and strengthen the region’s capacity to address the mental health crisis.

Scope of the project involved renovating a former three-story hospital to handle Crisis Stabilization and next step care transitioning.

This facility is on the front end of new programming and facility health design code being issued by the State of Michigan and LARA. Some spaces meet full anti-ligature requirements for both the patient room and bathroom while other locations are medium to minimal anti-ligature requirements.

Types of rooms and care include:

• Ground Floor Crisis Stabilization – 2 units
• Adult Mental Health Services with 15 adult holding rooms and 7 patient interview rooms
• Families First Urgent Care, 4 holding rooms, 7 interview rooms First Floor: 2 Units
• Adult Mental Health Services Crisis Stabilization Unit with 13 bedrooms and 1 seclusion room
• Families First Crisis Stabilization Unit with 8 bedrooms and 1 seclusion room
  Second Floor: 2 Units
• AMHS Bridges Crisis Unit: 17 bedrooms (including a quarantine room)
  – Treatment & Recovery Center: 12 beds in 10 rooms
  – Penthouse: Work to revamp building mechanical and electrical services including air handlers, chillers and boilers.
