Granger is part of a joint venture, Build Westville, constructing a new state-of-the-art prison on the same grounds as the existing outdated facility. The new 4,200-bed prison will include about 700 more beds than the current facility, with a combination of maximum, medium and minimum-security spaces. The full-service prison will also have space for administrative functions, program services, security, medical, food services, recreational and facilities management. The project includes construction of a Central Utility Plant to support the new facility.
The design focuses on safety, security and increased programming for inmates. While the current workforce of about 900 will remain about the same, there will be fewer
correctional officers and more employees involved in programs designed to help decrease recidivism.
Project Features:
- 18,000 SF of classroom space
- Vocational training program space, including a woodshop, RV Maintenance and Welding
programs - 400 beds for mental health and addiction recovery
- Administration Services and Offender Services
- Housing and dormitory wings
