A New Construction Company Begins

In June, Keith Granger and sons Ron, Jerry and Alton split from the family company Granger Brothers to start the firm Keith Granger and Sons.

1959

The First Year

By January, the company name changed to Granger Construction. That year, Granger became incorporated and completed several projects including an addition for Dansville Schools and Michigan State University’s Eppley Center.

1960

Early Decades

During this time, Granger acquired its first 50-ton crane and launched Granger Excavating. Notable projects completed included assembly plants for General Motors’ Oldsmobile brand and renovation of the Don Johnson Field House.

1960-70s

The Eighties

During this decade, Granger transitions from a General Contracting firm to a Construction Management company and updated the company logo. They also relocated the company headquarters to its current location on Aurelius Road in Lansing, MI.

1980s

The Nineties

As Granger continued to grow in-house subject matter expertise, the started the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing estimating division, initially called the Functions group.

1990s

Midwest Growth

In response to growth across the Midwestern United States, Granger opened several satellite office locations throughout the early 2000s. This included offices in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Novi, Michigan and Columbus, Ohio. The company also completed a rebranding in 2011. During this time, Granger continued to serve as a pioneer in collaborative delivery methods, including delivering the first Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) healthcare project in the state of Michigan in 2012 (Hurley Medical Center in Flint). The team was also recognized for several project performance and safety performance awards, including several WCA Pyramid Awards, AGC of Michigan Build Michigan Awards, CAM Magazine Best Project Awards and ENR Top Regional Project Awards. Granger was also awarded the Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation of the Knapp’s Centre in Lansing, Michigan during this period.

2000–2020

Innovation

In July of 2021 Granger led the industry in completing construction of the first building in the State of Michigan constructed using innovative Mass Timber Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) materials at Michigan State University’s new STEM Teaching and Learning Facility.

2021

Notable Awards

Granger teams continued to receive recognition for their award-winning work, with notable awards including the AGC of America Construction Risk Partners Best Construction Management Renovation Project Under $99 Million and the AGC Grand Award, both awarded to the Michigan State University STEM Teaching and Learning Facility project team.

2022

Awards Abound

For the second year in a row, Granger teams were awarded an AGC Build America Award, this time for the University of Michigan W.K. Kellogg Institute and Dental Building Expansion & Renovation. This same year, Granger was also awarded an AGC of America Community Impact Award.

2023

Milestones

Granger celebrated its milestone 65th anniversary as a Midwest construction firm.

2024

Updated Locations

Granger relocated its Southeastern Michigan office from Novi to Corktown in Detroit.
