Acrisure Amphitheater

City of Grand Rapids

This project consists of a new 12,000 seat venue with opportunity for more than 54 ticketed events per year, bringing in more than 300,000 visitors per season in downtown Grand Rapids.

Granger Construction was brought on as a design assist contractor with a unit price contract.

Granger participated in the pre-construction process by providing framework design evaluation, value engineering, steel embed coordination/clash detection, constructability input, team building and schedule evaluation. Granger helped to solve several schedule and logistical issues by recommending that 75’ tall stage walls poured in three lifts. Granger proposed to make the wall free-standing to allow for the use of a roll back form system that would eliminate the need for a large laydown area, increase formwork cycle times, and allow the wall to be topped out prior to structural steel contractor needing to mobilize the site to make connections to the building structure. Scope of the design-assist structural concrete package included:

  • Two year project duration
  • 75’ tall cast-in-place amphitheater stage wall
  • Exposed architectural concrete seating bow.
  • 200,00 square feet of conrete flatwork, including polished and decorative colored site concrete
  • 9,800 cubic yards of concrete
  • 475 tons of reinforcing steel
