This fast-tracked, LEED Gold Design/Build project for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers involved a new eight-story administration office building and a new six level, 1,802 space parking garage.
The project featured a fully integrated Building Information Model (BIM) for design, construction and as-built documentation. It included many energy-saving and sustainable features and achieved LEED Gold certification although only Silver was required.
Phased design allowed for construction to begin early to not only meet but improve upon the fast-track schedule. The working relationship between the Corps of Engineers, the Detroit Arsenal and user groups, Granger and its Design Team and Subcontractors was extraordinary. This fully partnered project is a testament to the quality and integrity of the people involved.
As the installation (base) is home to more than 5,000 military and civilian personnel, continuous logistical, sequencing, shut-down and tie-in coordination was required to keep installation operations on-line and functioning.
All required aspects of Anti-Terrorism Force Protection permanent measures were incorporated including progressive collapse design, physical intrusion barriers, antitamperproof measures, etc. Temporary ATFP measures were employed throughout construction.
