Eastern Michigan University selected Granger as their Construction Manager for an addition and renovation to the Recreation and Intramural Sports facility (Rec/IM). This project consisted of reconfiguring existing spaces for new and expanded student gathering areas and open spaces to accommodate cardio and weight training equipment, along with updating fitness classrooms.

The project was implemented in phases to maintain operations during construction.

Specific improvements included:

  • Renovation of 72,000 square feet of existing space and the addition of 13,000 additional square feet
  • A new two-floor area for free weights facing west, with an expansive view (with large new windows) of the Student Center and lake
  • A new second-floor cardio area facing east, with an expansive view through large windows
  • A new first-floor gaming area
  • An open first-floor space for students to congregate
  • Renovation of the east and north entrances
  • New finishes on the third-floor basketball courts
  • Updates to all mechanical and electrical features throughout the building
