Granger was selected to manage construction of the County’s new Adult Jail Complex in addition to a new Juvenile Transition Center a few blocks away. The three-story, 89,000 SF Jail included a bed count of 532, and was built adjoining other buildings, including the previous jail and a six-story courthouse. Both adjoining structures remained occupied and operational throughout construction. Granger completed the project without impacting staff or visitor safety and without a single Lost Time Accident involving construction personnel with 107,783 hours total hours worked.
The project, which includes a Work Release Program area, was completed on time and under budget thanks to “Last Planner” scheduling techniques and Value Engineering efforts. Granger utilized 222 prefabricated steel cells on the top two floors of the jail, which significantly minimized onsite construction durations. Each cell came fully assembled with plumbing fixtures, bunks, mirrors, clothes hooks, lights, doors, windows and completely painted with an antimicrobial polyuria coating.
