Building Her Future: Helen Schneider’s Internship Journey with Granger

Meet Helen Schneider, a student in Granger’s 2025 Summer Internship Program. Helen joined the Trinity Health Livingston Addition and Renovation project in Brighton, MI, gaining valuable experience as an Assistant Project Engineer.

Studying construction management at MSU, Helen has always been drawn to a career in construction after growing up around the industry.

Her interest in Granger was sparked by the family-oriented culture. “The way Granger cares for its employees is hard to find,” she shared.

During her internship, each day consisted of something different. Helen’s responsibilities included keeping permits up to date, marking up RFIs in Bluebeam, taking inwall photos and publishing them on Procore and recording progress.

Before her internship, Helen had never been on a construction project site. It wasn’t until she got into the field that everything fell into place. She credits some of her newfound confidence to those who showed her the ropes.

“I often get nervous about being perfect, but having a mentor like Dave helped me to relax. Having that second opinion is very helpful as a young professional,” she shared.

Collaboration and teamwork were essential to Helen’s experience at Granger. She felt welcome to ask questions, rather than fearing vulnerability. After wrapping up her summer, she left with a new outlook on her future.

“My internship had a huge impact on my career direction. I have created new connections and gained knowledge, experience, and joy for everyday tasks on the job. You are not going to be perfect,” she said. “Just take it one day at a time.”
