Granger and Consumers Energy Help Turn Smart Energy Decisions into Real Savings

At Granger, we are continually focused on delivering added value for our clients, helping them make decisions that extend beyond construction and into long-term operational success. One of the most impactful ways we are doing this is through our partnership with Consumers Energy.

Recently, we had the opportunity to celebrate a significant milestone alongside Trinity Health when they received a $54,959 energy rebate check during a special presentation. The rebate recognizes the healthcare system’s commitment to incorporating high-efficiency systems and equipment into its Livingston Hospital Addition in Brighton, Michigan, an investment that will drive long-term operational savings while reducing environmental impact.

Granger Construction served as Construction Manager on the project and, working with SmithGroup (the architect), Trinity Health and Consumers Energy, were able to secure rebate incentives through strategic choices in mechanical equipment, including several high-efficiency boilers and their accompanying control systems for heating and cooling the new four-story, 174,000-square-foot building. This achievement underscores the power of thoughtful design, early planning, and strong collaboration in delivering measurable financial and sustainability outcomes.

For organizations like Trinity Health, these savings have a meaningful impact. Every dollar returned through energy rebates can be reinvested into patient care, advanced technologies, and enhanced facility environments, directly supporting their mission and the communities they serve.

“This rebate is a meaningful return on the investments we’ve made to create a more efficient and sustainable facility,” said John O’Malley, President of Trinity Health Livingston. “The savings allow us to reinvest in areas that directly benefit our patients and staff, while also supporting our long-term operational goals.”

A Partnership That Delivers Results

The success at Livingston Hospital is part of a much broader impact. Since beginning our collaboration with Consumers Energy two years ago, Granger has helped multiple clients identify, pursue, and secure valuable energy rebates tied to their construction and renovation projects. Collectively, these efforts have generated nearly $500,000 in savings returned directly to our clients.

These programs reward forward-thinking investments, from high-efficiency HVAC and lighting systems to advanced building controls and energy-conscious infrastructure. Granger works closely with clients throughout every phase of the project, from early design through construction and completion, to identify eligible opportunities, navigate program requirements, and maximize available incentives.

As energy costs continue to rise and sustainability expectations increase, the importance of integrating energy efficiency into construction projects has never been greater. Owners are increasingly seeking ways to reduce operating expenses while advancing their environmental goals, and energy rebate programs provide a powerful tool to achieve both.

Through our partnership with Consumers Energy, Granger is proud to help clients unlock these opportunities, turning smart energy decisions into measurable financial returns and long-term value. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to deliver results that benefit our clients, their operations, and the communities they serve.
