Granger Construction is proud to have led the successful renovation of the 1st and 3rd floors of Grand Valley State University’s Lubbers Student Services Center, delivering a modern, technology-rich environment designed to enhance the student and visitor experience from arrival through enrollment.
Completed within a fully occupied facility, the project required precise planning and phased execution to maintain uninterrupted operations. Granger’s team performed much of the work during early morning and after-hours shifts, minimizing disruption while prioritizing safety and efficiency. This thoughtful approach allowed the university to continue serving students and families seamlessly throughout construction.
At the heart of the renovation is a reimagined and intuitive student services journey, supported by new digital infrastructure. The upgraded space features dynamic wayfinding systems and real-time information displays that provide instant access to student records and services. Integrated technology also supports electronic queuing, helping streamline administrative processes and reduce wait times.
In the newly transformed atrium and lobby, guests are welcomed by interactive media walls that showcase student achievements, campus life, and the university’s environment, fostering an immediate sense of connection and community. The concierge desk serves as a central hub for assistance and navigation, featuring a clean, contemporary design complemented by a multi-dimensional 3D carved wall system behind it.
A centerpiece of the project is the Laker Anchor Room, a secondary onboarding and recruitment hub located on the first floor. Designed to make a lasting first impression, the suite offers a warm, high-end environment tailored for prospective students and their families. The space includes a bright, centrally located reception hub for initial meet-and-greets, along with two private, technology-enabled meeting rooms for personalized admissions consultations.
Additional enhancements across the renovated floors include private one-on-one meeting areas, flexible conference rooms, and upgraded staff support spaces. Interior improvements, ranging from new layouts and lighting to custom wood veneer wall systems, create a cohesive, welcoming environment aligned with GVSU’s identity.
Through strong collaboration, strategic phasing, and meticulous execution, Granger Construction has helped bring GVSU’s vision to life. The revitalized Student Services Center now stands as a highly functional, future-ready hub and a vibrant gateway for prospective and current students alike.
