Employee Spotlight: Paul Carignan – 20 Years of Excellence in Concrete Craftsmanship

October marks a major milestone for Paul Carignan, who celebrates 20 years with Granger Construction. Since joining the company in 2005, Paul has built a reputation as a trusted expert in concrete construction.

Paul began his journey as a Carpenter Apprentice, progressing to Journeyman Carpenter, then Layout Foreman, and now serves as a Concrete Superintendent, overseeing some of Granger’s most technically demanding concrete projects. Known for his exceptional craftsmanship and deep technical knowledge, he has been involved in several complex projects over the years, many of which have been recognized by industry organizations and publications.

Paul recently led the self-perform concrete crew at the Genesee County Anthony Ragnone Treatment Plant (ARTP) Digester Plant, which completed a first-of-its-kind concrete project for Granger involving construction of 45’ x 62’ digester tanks with the bottom 22 feet requiring 45-degree sloped walls. This project is highlighted in the October issue of CAM Magazine as one of the Top 12 projects in 2025 based on the difficulty of the concrete work.

That award-winning project was followed by another Granger first at the MSU Chiller Plant project where Paul and the team completed the largest ever single concrete pour in company history in July, placing 1,900 cubic yards of concrete in about 9 hours.

Paul also led the concrete team at the Padnos Shredder Plant in Howell, MI, which received the 2022 Excellence in Concrete Award from the Michigan Concrete Association for its highly technical structural concrete work. The project included a 48” thick elevated slab, a 51” thick radius wall to support heavy industrial equipment and the use of custom prefabricated steel wall forms.

Paul is known not only for his technical skill but also for his ability to mentor and lead crews, ensuring quality and precision on every pour. His work consistently meets — and often exceeds — performance standards.

His colleagues describe him as a problem-solver and a perfectionist, whose impact is felt across every job he touches. Whether navigating complex formwork, coordinating with suppliers, or ensuring flawless finishes, Paul brings a level of dedication and excellence that elevates every project.

“Paul spent years leading layout operations on our concrete projects. It’s because of this experience that he has a knack for discovering and solving problems before they slow the job down in the field,” said Jerrod Pung, Vice President of Construction Services at Granger. His foresight and commitment to quality are unmatched. He’s the kind of leader who not only gets the job done but inspires those around him to do their best work.”

Paul’s 20 years at Granger are defined not just by the structures he’s helped build, but by his unwavering commitment to excellence that continues to shape the future of Granger’s concrete operations. Congratulations, Paul, and thank you for two decades of outstanding service and craftsmanship.
