Engineering an Experience: Taylor Stenzel’s Granger Internship

Meet Taylor Stenzel, an Estimating Intern with Granger Construction’s 2025 Summer Internship Program. This summer, Taylor worked with the Construction Services and Estimating Department, gaining valuable experience in the early stages of project planning.

A MSU civil engineering student, Taylor was drawn to estimating because of her love for math and process-oriented work. “I chose civil engineering because I enjoy seeing how my designs directly impact people,” she said. “To become a great engineer, I knew I needed to understand how plans are used in construction and how to design with constructability in mind.”

Taylor chose Granger for its strong internship program and community presence. “Granger builds projects on MSU’s campus, which allows me to see the progress and growth of projects I get to experience as a student,” she said. “The interview and prep process was smooth and well thought out. I could tell early on that Granger truly cares about its interns and gives them meaningful work.”

Taylor came into the internship with limited construction experience but quickly found herself immersed in a wide range of projects. “I had the opportunity to touch more than 25 different projects and bid on four different package types in one summer,” she said. “The culture at Granger is incredible. The people I worked with weren’t just smart and hardworking—they were supportive, encouraging and felt like family. From day one, I was treated like a valued team member and welcomed to ask questions and learn.”

Her day-to-day work included reading plans and specs, performing takeoffs, using estimating software, coordinating with subcontractors, and reviewing estimates. “It was very easy to stay motivated and engaged,” she said. “The estimating department is fast-paced and full of energy. I also visited job sites to connect the dots between planning and building.”
